Keyword Permaculture (a contraction of permanent agriculture and permanent culture) is the practice of sustainable farming that renews natural resources and enriches local ecosystems. In contrast, corporate agribusiness, drains resources and pollutes the environment because of its dependency upon high inputs of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, and oil and electricity. Permaculture integrates human dwellings and activities with local ecology, and combines crops and animals to create a system that requires few outside chemical or energy inputs. Permaculture employs observation of natural systems, science, and the wisdom of indigenous peoples to increase diversity and productivity. It's practitioners believe all life is connected and interdependent, and that access to healthy food and sustainable living are vital to true equality, thus, fundamental human rights. |
